Description
2710-005 Aileron Torque Tube Bearing
- Sold by the each, (6) are required per Searey airframe (3 per wing) and used on all Searey Classic, LSX, Adventure, and Elite models.
- Due to the aileron forces imposed, I recommend replacing the outboard Aileron Torque Tube Bearing about every 5 years. It can be done with the wing installed on the aircraft through the 2 inspection ports.
- The outboard bearing is the one most prone to cracking. In 25 years of working on Searey’s full time, I have seen only two of the Inboard Bearings crack. The middle bearing I have not seen crack, nor is there access to it.
- If you recovering your wings (or building an older kit) I would recommend changing ALL 6 while the wings are open.
These typically last about 5 years, please check yours carefully as they can crack on the aft side. There are 3 bearings inside each left / right wing halves.
This bearing is made in my facility, and differs slightly from the factory produced bearing. I have doubled the thickness on the aft side where the bearings tend to fail.
Though I would like to add material to the upper and lower side (on the factory part its pretty thin) I have NEVER seen any of these fail in those areas. Additionally adding material to these areas would affect the control throws, though by how much I do not know.
